General information about the scientific data of TP-C5

The available scientific data shows some results from the research of subproject C5. The focus of this subproject is the investigation of the behavior of water droplets under the influence of electric fields. Further information about the experiments can be found in the following publications:

Description of the setup

The experiments show the oscillations and deformation of water droplets under the influence of an electric field. Several cases are shown in the videos:

  • Tangentially or normally aligned electric field (with respect to the insulator surface)
  • Different excitation frequencies
  • Static or oscillating electric field

The videos are named according to the observed cases. The following table shows a detailed description of the used names:

 AC Oscillating electric field
DC Static electric field
 Tangential Tangentially aligned orientation of the electric field (with respect to the insulator surface)
 Normal Normally aligned orientation of the electric field (with respect to the insulator surface)
 XXul Volume of the water droplet, e.g. 20 µl
 XXHz Applied frequency of the voltage, e.g.100 Hz
 Mode Numbering of the oscillation modes of water droplets
 UV Camera Video visualizing the occurring partial discharges near the contact line, captured with a UV camera.
